WEEK 4: TEST QUESTION FOR STANDARD 2 STUDENT

Preparing a set of question for assessment is harder than I thought. Knowing the bloom's taxonomy is a piece of cake, but incorporating the element into the test items is a lot of work and require deep comprehension on how to apply the element.

Anyways, this is the final outcome that will be submitted tomorrow (for my future reference of course ;P)

WEEK 1: RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ASSESSMENT AND LEARNING

It is important for me to do well in this course. To be the underdog, I always feel inferior about where I am in term of language. Somehow, I do not see this as something that I should worry on, because this is a platform for me to show my ability. I am a self thought person when it comes to learning the language. To be evaluated by a lecturer on my ability in delivering my work, I can finally assess the outcome of my learning and look where I am so far.

In the first class, I came across with a few terms that I believed I am the only one who's not aware of its existence. The terms that I wanted to highlight here are, AOL (assessment of learning), AFL (assessment for learning), and AAL (assessment as learning).

It is important for the student to be assessed so that we know where they are. The composition of summative assessment and formative assessment must be at balance so that the development of the student is at a good pace.Th improper allocation of assessment would make the reading on student's performance less favorable. The student need to be evaluated with exams so that they know where they are.

For example, as Malaysia takes part in TIMSS (Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study), not only the students and the school can now their benchmark in science and mathematics learning, the outcome of the assessment can also be used to develop a more polished education policy. On the contrary, the teacher must not put the student into much pressure on fulfilling the assessment by score basis, but to urge them to comprehend the knowledge well.

Pens and paper are holding back the student's creativity and higher order thinking level when the composition of assessment is at 100% of summative. It may not be intended by the system, but the students are trained to answer the question mechanically. This culture somehow is not foreseen by the government as the implementation of the hybrid PT3 which comprise of good combination of summative and formative approach.

Malaysia is moving to the direction of holistic learning. We are accepting many foreign education system to be adapted into ours in hopes of advancement. With the globalization in technology and education, the awareness on knowledge is easier to be spread. We are trying to create a society that applaud to learn to live, not learn to pass.  I have high hopes for the education system in Malaysia to develop comprehensively in many aspect so that we can grow to learn and achieve our goals cohesively.
